Do you ever get spam emails offering to increase the SEO (Search Engine Optimization) of your website? We get several a week, and they go immediately into the trash file.
If you want more visitors to your website (and who doesn’t?), SEO is absolutely critical. The famous line from Field of Dreams (“If you build it, they will come”) simply doesn’t apply where websites are concerned. Sure, every once in a while a website will rocket to popularity, but that is generally an outlier. The average website needs to have it’s SEO consistently worked on to be seen.
One of the tricky things about SEO and Search Rankings is that it’s somewhat of an organic process. Google is constantly tweaking their search algorithms and rules, which means SEO is a moving target at the best of times.
What’s the best way to go about it?
Delete those spam emails and hire a reputable SEO professional. When we build a new website we perform baseline SEO on each page. However, SEO is not an overnight proposition, and it can take months before you begin to see trackable results. This means you’re in it for the long haul, so find a specialist you’ll want to work with for awhile.
We’re also big believers in personal referrals. If someone you know and trust can tell you they have worked with an SEO professional who got their site from page 10 of Google to page 1, you’ve most likely got a winner on your hands.
